Move over, Florida! The sunshine state has long been a haven for retirees, but new data shows that the No. 1 place where retirees are moving is Mesa.

In a new study, SmartAsset analyzed migration data for 146 of the largest cities in the U.S. to uncover where retirees are moving to.

Our findings show that seven Arizona cities rank among the top 100 places where retirees are moving:

No. 1: Mesa, AZ

No. 11: Peoria, AZ

No. 17: Chandler, AZ

No. 51: Gilbert, AZ

No. 65: Scottsdale, AZ

No. 71: Phoenix, AZ

No. 85: Tempe, AZ

ixed incomes can’t go as far for retirees with the current pressures from high inflation and a volatile stock market. For some, relocating to a cheaper or more tax-friendly part of the country may no longer be a matter of preference, but a necessity. Recent data suggests that seniors are moving out of expensive northeastern cities and into other parts of the country.

With this in mind, SmartAsset examined U.S. Census Bureau migration data to uncover where retirees are moving. These cities may be attractive for a multitude of reasons, including community, taxes, recreation, climate and more.

This is SmartAsset’s seventh annual study on where retirees are moving. Read the previous version here.
